Portas Abertas - Palácio da Inquisição - EVORA/ PORTUGAL, July - September 2013

Portas Abertas is an international artistic project organised by Fórum Eugénio de Almeida on the occasion of its opening in the former Palácio da Inquisição (Palace of the Inquisition), in Évora, Portugal. Built in 1536, the Palace was the first Inquisition building in Portugal. Here, according to historical records, 216 women and 291 men were sentenced to death.

During the communist regime installed in Romania after WW2, my family was separated, deported, condemned to forced labor, dispossessed of all their goods, with their destinies completely turned upside down. The only way I can repair all the injustices done to them is to send works with their portraits all over the world and tell their story, making it possible, in a symbolic way, that they finally regain the right to travel freely.
